Course Description: Asthmatic patients frequently request sedation / anesthesia in the dental office. This presentation will review the pathophysiology of the disease and offer several suggestions on pre-anesthetic screening and preparation as well as peri-anesthetic management.

Course Objectives:

  • Describe the consequences of decreased airway diameter as it relates to ventilation and diffusion
  • Discuss the pathophysiology of bronchospasm and its treatment
  • Recognize patients who may be at risk for bronchospasm
