Course Description: Asthmatic patients frequently request sedation / anesthesia in the dental office. This presentation will review the pathophysiology of the disease and offer several suggestions on pre-anesthetic screening and preparation as well as peri-anesthetic management.

Course Objectives:

Describe the consequences of decreased airway diameter as it relates to ventilation and diffusion
Discuss the pathophysiology of bronchospasm and its treatment
Recognize patients who may be at risk for bronchospasm
