Course Description: This 1 hour presentation explores the clinical significance of administering office-based anesthesia to patients suffering with any one of a broad range of psychiatric diseases. Worries about anesthetic and psychiatric drug interaction as well as adequacy of psychiatric intervention will be addressed. The office based anesthetic management of patients with (suspected) substance abuse issue will be discussed.

  • List 4 common side effects of psychotropic medication
  • Describe methods to evaluate adequacy of psychiatric intervention
  • Discuss the effects of acute and chronic substance abuse on anesthetic requirements
