Course Description: The anesthesia assistant is a vital member of the anesthesia team. This presentation emphasizes the active role that assistants will assume in the prevention of medical emergencies as well as recognition of signs and symptoms of medical emergencies. Subsequently, the management of medical emergencies will be discussed, with emphasis on providing a coordinated team effort.

Course Objectives:

  • Recognize the signs, symptoms and treatment modalities for medical emergencies that may occur in a dental office
  • Discuss the responsibility of the dentist and dental auxiliary personnel when a medical emergency occurs during dental treatment
  • Explain the “One Minute – Time Out “ Procedure
  • Discuss a course of action following a medical emergency that may occur in your dental office
