Office-based Anesthetic Airway Management - 209

Course Description: Adverse respiratory events, notably lost airways, account for the vast majority of office based anesthetic adversity. This 2 hour presentation will address those patients with co-morbidities that predispose to respiratory and ventilatory adversity, with special emphasis on the pediatric airway. Currently available airway adjuncts will also be covered in detail.
Course Objectives:
- List 4 differences between the adult and pediatric airway
- Discuss asthma, obesity, and obstructive sleep apnea as they relate to peri-anesthetic airway patency
- List advantages and disadvantages of 3 types of upper airway adjuncts
- Explain treatment options for laryngospasm, bronchospasm, pulmonary edema and aspiration
